US 21 Bridge over the Catawba River

KCI provided project management and design services to replace the existing two-lane structure carrying US 21 over the Catawba River with a 1,000-foot-long, four-lane steel beam bridge. During construction, contractor Lane Construction worked with KCI in designing a lifting frame system to launch 60-ton girders laterally from the existing bridge, avoiding impacts to the river and uncertainty associated with mobilizing barge mounted cranes over the shallow river bottom.

Chuck Phillips Honored for Community Service

Senior Vice President Charles A. Phillips Jr., RPLS, was presented with a Community Service Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies / Maryland at a banquet held in Baltimore on February 18. Phillips has been dedicated to serving the region throughout his 38-year career, whether that be through community support, industry advancement through professional organizations, mentoring, volunteering or stewardship.
